Quality And Quantity Of Complementary Feeding On Nutritional Status Of Children Aged 6-24 Months

Abstract

Prevalence of wasting on underfive children in Indonesia was 19.6% in 2013, which means the problem is still a serious health problem in community. Giving sufficient quality and quantity of complementary feeding are important factors for prevention of nutritional problems and maintain a good nutritional status. The study aim was to assess proportion of wasting and the quality as well as the quantity of complementary feeding on nutritional status of children aged 6-24 months. The study used cross sectional design, conducted in Puskesmas Teluk Mambang area, 2017. The sample was 205 children. It found that significantly association (p<0.05) of quality complementary feeding which was depicted from complementary feeding type with child nutritional status. Children who consume local complementary feeding were more at risk of becoming waster than children who consume local and manufacturers complementary feeding (p<0,05). There was no association between quantity of food depicted from frequency, age of given complementary feeding, energy intake and protein intake with nutritional status of children. It is recommended that Health Service of Bengkalis District to improve health promotion on food intake in infants through Puskesmas and Posyandu that involved many stakeholders.
