Riau Province Development Planning Within the Framework of Green and Sustainable Economic Development

Abstract

The development of Riau Province as part of a green economy is an important step to overcome environmental, economic and societal challenges. This research seeks to determine the problems that exist in the province by identifying challenges, opportunities and implementation strategies that can be adopted to achieve sustainable development in Riau province. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach and uses thematic and SWOT analysis to analyze the main features and to produce appropriate strategies. The research results show that the Riau government has initiated steps such as integrating green economy strategic planning principles in the 2022 Regional Low Carbon Development Plan. The potential of environmentally friendly sectors, such as renewable energy from palm oil waste, sustainable agriculture and ecotourism, provides significant opportunities for economic diversification. This research recommends strengthening policies, green technology innovation, community empowerment, and cross-sector collaboration to support the transition to a green economy. Incentive support for the private sector as well as international cooperation for funding and technology transfer are also emphasized. By implementing targeted strategies, Riau Province can become a model of inclusive and sustainable green development in Indonesia.
