Supply Chain Of Sago (Metroxylon Sagu) Commodity In Meranti Island District

Abstract

Meranti Islands District is the largest sago producing region in Riau Province.The existence of sago plantations in this area has had an impact on the socio-economic life of the community in this area.The objective of this study was to find the supply chain of sago commodity in Meranti Islands District. Data collection was done by survey and observation method in the field. Primary data were obtained from field observations and interviews with respondents.Secondary data were collected from reports published by government agencies in the Meranti Islands District.The area of sago plantation in the district was approximately 38,614 hectares consisting of production community sago plantation were 108,043 tons, or 73.59% of the total sago production of Riau Province or 25.46 percent of total national sago production. Sago raw material marketing system (tree rumbia) can be divided into 2 ways namely asbondage system and regular system. The marketing system with transactions occurring at the location of the field will provide the industry with the greatest profit of Rp81.000 per stem.While the system of purchasing sago stems with transactions in industrial locations will provide benefits for farmers.Community sago industry products are marketed to 3 (three) location targets, ie for local communities, export to Malaysia and marketed to Cirebon, West Java. The demand for sago flour by an agent /distributor in Cirebon is approximately 400,000 tons of sago flour per year.
