Potensi Keberlanjutan Urban Farming sebagai Upaya Peningkatan Ketahanan Pangan di Kota Pekanbaru

Abstract

Urban farming is a solution to enhancing food security for urban communities. This study aims to: 1. analyze the sustainability of urban farming from five dimensions, namely ecological, economic, social, technological and institutional, and 2. analyze the challenges and efforts of urban farming actors to overcome the obstacles they face. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through surveys and interviews. The results of the study found that the five dimensions of urban farming need to be improved to support the sustainability of urban farming in Pekanbaru City. The main challenges of urban farming are limited land, capital and technology. Efforts made by urban farming actors to overcome obstacles include: being proactive in independent learning, building networks and partnerships, joining groups, maximizing available resources, expanding land, accessing assistance from the government, and innovating. This study recommends improving access and quality of training, empowering groups and communities, developing environmentally friendly technologies, orienting urban farming activities to the market economy, and increasing institutional support from the government. In addition, optimizing the use of abandoned land also needs to be carried out through a lease scheme or profit sharing with landowners.
