Abstract

Rokan Hilir Regency is the largest Blood Cockle (A. granosa) producing area in Riau Province with production of 6,492.47 tons in 2018. High blood cockle cultivation activities will affect the carrying capacity of waters. This research aims to determine the existing conditions of blood cockle cultivation and analyze the water quality in the blood cockle cultivation area in Rokan Hilir Regency. This research was conducted using survey and experimental methods. Blood cockle production in Rokan Hilir Regency is currently 6,492.47 tonnes or 49.67% of the total 13,072.21 tonnes of aquaculture production. Water quality parameters in cultivation areas are; salinity + 34 ppt, temperature 28.7 - 290C, pH around 8, dissolved oxygen 4.4 - 6.1 mg/l and alkalinity 120 - 125 mg/l, are in the range of good quality standards to support the life of blood cockles. Meanwhile, the brightness parameter ranges from 50.0 – 55.0 cm, which is below the required quality standard, namely 60.0 cm. The waters of the cultivation area are rich in plankton, namely Location I: 30,959 ind/l, Location II.A: 15,032 ind/l and Location II.B: 5,011 ind/l as natural food for the growth of blood cockles. The water sample showed negative results for E. coli, Coliform and Salmonella bacterial contamination with levels of 0 ind/100 l and negative. Likewise, contamination in the shellfish samples showed a value < 3 and was negative so it was safe for consumption. The levels of heavy metals lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) in water samples ranged from 0.036 – 0.082 mg/kg and in shellfish samples ranged from 0.074 – 0.163 mg/kg, which is below the maximum standard standard so it is safe for consumption. Sediment and water samples in Panipahan waters were identified as containing microplastics in the form of nylon, polyethylene and polypropylene
